LIVERPOOL VS WOLVES
Liverpool hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield
on the final day of the Premier League season, knowing that they still
have a chance of pipping Manchester City to the title.
That would require a favor from Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa at the Etihad, and the Reds also need to deliver by wrapping up an unforgettable domestic campaign on a high note.
Even though Jurgen Klopp's side may only end
up with the EFL Cup and FA Cup in their cabinet, they have at least
raised the prospect of a clean sweep of trophies more than any English
club has before.
Liverpool came from behind to beat Southampton 2-1 on Tuesday night,
showing their strength in depth by making nine changes and still winning
just three days after a gruelling 120 minutes and penalty shootout
against Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
It will be a disappointing weekend for Liverpool, as the title is
very much in the hands of Pep Guardiola's men. No matter what Liverpool
does, a win for Guardiola's men will secure their fourth Premier League
crown in five years.
There is a certain fatefulness about Gerrard - arguably Liverpool's greatest ever player and certainly the best player who has never won the title - finally securing the trophy for his boyhood club by providing some sort of final-day drama to rival 1989 and 2012.
